Jai

I'm back with a new set from Supernatural Jai. We tried a different shooting location this time around and went with studio lights instead of natural light. Look for more sets and video from Jai coming up soon.

The lovely lady in today's update is SupernatuReal Jai and she was shot right here in Ohio. Those of you who have conversed with me know that I'd been having a difficult time locating SupernatuReals locally. SupernatuReals are rare, special women and I knew when I started this project that finding them for the site would be difficult. But a few weeks ago my tenacity paid off when I discovered Jai.

She posed for an art class and did one photo shoot in the past but she is no "model." She is simply a woman who believed in my vision and was bold and brave enough to step in front of my camera and display her body and hair the way it was intended to be…natural. I don't know about you all but I think actress Lisa Nicole Carson and Jai could be twin sisters. They share the same curly afro, skin tone, curves and gorgeous smile.

Jai's Afrocentric clothing and jewelry for this shoot are from Ghana. Jai had this to say about her hair, "I have only had two perms/straighteners in my life although I did use curling irons to tame my hair into submission. I quit fighting my curls about eight years ago. I went natural because I was tired of fighting what my hair wanted to do and wanted to embrace my own individual type of beauty."

Supernatureal Jai returns rocking a beautiful dress made up of Pan-African colors. I added a red, black, green and yellow choker and bracelet to complete the Afrocentric look.

I was lucky enough to collaborate with SupernatuReal Jai for a second time. Summertime had darkened her skin a bit, giving it a warm, copper color. Her Afro was more tightly curled this time around and had highlights that matched her beautiful brown complexion.

The sun was warm and bright so we had some great natural light to shoot with. Unfortunately, all of that sunlight was accompanied by lots of heat and the place we were shooting in had no air. Fortunately, I had two lovely ladies assisting me and they brought plenty of bottled water to keep Jai hydrated.

Jai never complained though and she managed to keep everyone upbeat and laughing by joking around between shots. We created a ton of great art on this shoot so if you are a fan of Jai, make sure to stick around.

Mishana Rose

Today's image set features the lovely SupernatuReal Mishana Rose. This sexy, sculpted sista was born in New Jersey but currently resides in Ohio. Since she was so close to us, we had the pleasure of shooting her her ourselves. Jason handled all of the photography this time around while I captured the video.

We tried three different lighting set ups and they all turned out great. Mishanna took direction very well and even offered her own suggestions on different poses we could try. She is definitely one of the best models I've ever worked with. At the end of the session, I discovered that she is into cosplay themed shoots so I plan to get her back to to do some superheroine stuff in the future.

Mishana had this to say about her hair, " Had one relaxer in 8th grade, buzz cut like Willow Smith, then natural ever since. I had locs for almost ten years and cut them off two years ago after they reached butt-length. I went natural after my first relaxer damaged my hair. I'm into natural health. I don't do chemicals in or outside my body or on my hair. I also like to keep it simple and think natural African hair is beautiful in all its styles."

Jet

Thanks to SupernatReal Jet, we have two models in today's update features.  Jet pulled double duty as model and photographer but she also brought along newcomer, SupernatuReal Eden.

Eden has been wearing her her hair natural for three years and normally rocks a beautiful purple fro hawk.  Unfortunately, there was a little  miscommunication and she wore her hair in a protective style for this shoot.  But no need to worry.  When she and Jet link up again, I'm going to try and set up another shoot with her so that you can see that  beautiful hair hair of hers.

Jet had this to say about the shoot…"I wanted to shoot with another model to challenge myself as both an amateur photographer & model. I wanted to see if I could successfully work with someone else. I think I achieved it.  When I was planning the shoot, I realized I had matching tops & thigh socks of opposite colors. Eden just so happen to have the matching panties, so I went with it..."

"...I wanted the shoot to be very simple with black, grey & white shades so that our skin tones would come out in the forefront.  As for lighting, I used 2 lamps I have in my room. No special lighting equipment. I also decided to have my TV on, because once in a while, a nice blue color would appear and compliment both our skin tones, and I think the overall shoot has a warm feel of two friends having a sleepover. The only difficulties with the shoot was setting up the overhead shots. But I planned for it and everything turned out great! I hope I get to do more self shot sets with other models in the future. "

It had been a while since SupernatuReal Jet made her debut on the site and I, like many of you,  eagerly awaited her return. When she told me she had a new image set to share, I couldn't wait to see what she'd come up with.  Like before, Jet acted as both artist and muse and she did not disappoint with the work she created.

The location she chose this time was a bit bigger, giving her more room to explore.  Her hair, poses, and the way her loose fitting gray top hung off of her shoulders had her looking like Jennifer Beals in that old 80's dance movie.  If you get the chance Google her name and  "Flashdance" and see if you agree.

With each pose, her hair changed slightly, making it seem almost alive.  She challenged herself for this set by using mostly natural light.  Her shoot must have started around sunset because she had  less and less light to work with as the set progressed.   She still managed to create some beautiful images despite all the challenges.  Hopefully we will see more from this beautiful and  talented woman in the future.

You all have Britney Siren to thank for connecting me with the beautiful woman featured in today's update. Please say hello to the lovely SupernatuReal Jet. Interestingly enough, I had been following her on Tumblr for a while and was a fan of her and her photography but wasn't sure if she'd be interest in being featured on the site.

When you check out her set you'll see that she's a great model as well as an awesome photographer. I can't help but think how much she looks like a young Angela Davis. And not just her hair. Her lips and the shape of her face are similar to the activist. You all agree or nah?

Anyway, Jet had this to say about her hair, " I've been natural since February 2013. I realized everything I was told about my hair was wrong. Having to relax, straighten or tie my hair back, because my type of hair was problematic and unacceptable. I was born with this hair. It's beautiful and lovely. Going natural has been a very freeing experience. " Keep an eye out for more work from Jet soon!

IndiaBlac

IndiaBlac is a beautiful, curvy SupernatuReal who comes to us by way of Detroit. She had this to say about her hair, "I've gone natural only recently...within the last five months. I decided to go natural because of the hassle of buying weave. I would spend hundreds of dollars in just a few months..."

"...It was damaging to my hair, looked unnatural and in a way, was addicting." I for one am glad she made the decision to liberate her hair and I hope she sticks with the look. I've got more sets coming up of IndiaBlac so don't worry.
